As we went though radiation treatments together, and her with surgery and chemo, one theme constantly kept me going. God cares and he was in control.

While I was diagnosed with Prostate cancer and it was caught early, my wife of 28 years had suffered colon cancer some ten years ago only to have it reappear in 2009 but in a stage III form. However, it was how we found out that showed me more than ever the power of God.

It was a Saturday and we had gone for a walk - as we usually did. After coming home I was preparing for an online seminar when she called me from the bathroom. She was hemorrhaging huge amounts of blood and hardly conscious. I called an ambulance and she was rushed to the local emergency room where doctors frantically tried to find the source of the bleeding.

It was grim, she was losing too much blood and going in and out of consciousness. The doctors ushered me out into the hallway. I was devastated and the doctors told that she might die from the bleeding. Suddenly a doctor appeared and said, "If you're going to pray for something, pray that the bleeding source is found".

He then disappeared. I prayed that, and within two minutes they came out of the room with my wife on a gurney heading for a Cat Scan, but they were now able to stop the bleeding and had transfusions running. She survived that, and the difficult surgery (supposedly an inoperable tumor) and chemo.

Meanwhile I went through the radiation and the "seed" implant that is common with Prostate cancer.

As an aside, we had gone through financial reversal a couple of years before this that caused us to sell our house and live in an apartment.

Since I bought an insurance policy for cancer for both of us the money from that policy allowed us to purchase a house, which even during our recovery we bought and moved into.

It's been a long winding road but even so God guided us, cared for us, provided for us, even when at times we wondered if he did. It's one thing to sing "God Cares" from the pew, another to sing it in the midst of pain and suffering.

You may be going through a lot now, wondering if God really cares. You might be wondering whether he loves you at all, or even if He really exists at all.

I'm hear to tell you He does care for you and me!

Day by Day, Step by Step

Be not therefore anxious for the morrow: for the morrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. - Mat 6:34

One of the most emphatic commands of Christ is the command not to worry about tomorrow. More to the point, "Live one day at a time".

I don't know about you but I've always had a problem keeping that one as my mind loves to travel to the future to explore what horrors might be lurking. Yes and sometimes it loves to go back through the past to relive all my failures and bad days just to take up the spaces between.

But Jesus said, "Don't be anxious" and if anyone had a reason to be anxious it was he. After all he knew how his earthly life would end, on a cross, beaten half to death. He knew that since the beginning of his ministry. How would you fare knowing how your end would come? Wouldn't you be anxious?

I think most of us would. But Jesus said, "Don't be anxious about tomorrow". How?

Well Jesus knew his end but he also knew the beginning after the end, that is, that after that horrible death through which he would take away the sins of the world, he would then rise again and ascend to his father. Moreover he would return in the person of the Holy Spirit to take up resident in our souls and from there continue to minister to a sick and dying world.

Therefore he could say that because he knew the "Purpose" of tomorrow is "God's Plan". He could say, "Don't worry about what you have no right to worry about because God is in control of your tomorrow."

Think back to the times you have worried about tomorrow and then think about how much of what you worried about actually happened? You might remember that very little of what you were worried about happened and in many cases nothing happened at all. Or perhaps it wasn't as "bad" as you envisioned it.

That's because we can't see the future. No matter what our mind comes up with it has no way of knowing the end from the beginning, only God can do that. He knows the entire process from beginning to end and has complete control throughout the process.

Jesus gave us the example of how to live that "One day at a Time" in the life he lived here on earth. He told us:

" I can of myself do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is righteous; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of him that sent me." John 5:30

Jesus told us that by himself, that is in his earthly nature as man he could do nothing of his own accord. Over and over again he told us that "The father in me - HE does the work", and "By myself I can do nothing without my Father".

Jesus example to us was of a man living as He as God created man to live. By a total dependence everyday on God as the source of his activity. So as "I live by the Father, the Father lives in me, HE does the work, ..so now I send you, where I will live in you, doing my work".

That is to live everyday in a total dependent relationship on God who lives within us. Our day doesn't belong to us but to him who decides our next step in the context of that 24 hours. In every day, step by step, we live in yielded dependence on our creator to live his life in and through us. As we do that we gain strong confidence in the fact that "He will direct our paths" for that day. As day to day goes by and we are assured of his continued faithfulness we will be less apt to dwell on the unknowable future, resting in the knowledge that the God who is in our today will also be in our tomorrow.

Eternal Security? You Bet!

Eternal life cannot be lost....

Salvation is LIFE. "For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to
God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be
saved by his life" (Romans 5:10).

1. We were (that's past tense) reconciled to God by the death of Christ -
while we were still enemies (that's while we could have cared less!), how
much more being reconciled (received the total forgiveness for all sins,
past, present and future), shall we now be saved by His life ("I have come
that you might have life" John 10:10.

2. All sin was forgiven at the cross of Christ, "Forgave us all our sins"
Col. 2:13. God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself NOT
counting mens sins against them (2Cor. 5:19).

3. God did that to "clear the decks" for a Divine action on His part of
restoring to man what man needs - Life, not just any life, but the very
life of God Himself. The same life which was in man in the beginning
before Adam fell. "In Him (Jesus) was life (Zoe), which was (in the
beginning) the light of men" John 1:4.

4. When you become a new creation (2Cor 5:17), God makes you a totally
new person in Him (Eph. 4:24) without spot or blemish, and seals you with
the Holy Spirit (the Spirit of Life) (Eph. 1:13-14). You cannot go back
and be a "old creation". God says that old person (spiritual being) was
crucified with Christ (Gal. 2:20; Rom. 6:6), he is dead, never to live
again!

5. You cannot therefore lose salvation (life) because the only thing that
could cause you to lose life would be sin. It can't because all your sins
HAVE been forgiven. IT IS FINISHED! Sin and death are a part of the OLD
creation, they have no place in the NEW.

6. You are now free from the power of sin, and free to walk in the
newness of Christ resurrection life (Christ living HIS life in you).
Secure in the knowledge that "Faithful is HE who calls that will also DO
IT" 1Th. 5:23-24. God completes the work He began! (Php.1:6).

7. God has a plan. A redemptive and restorative plan for the redemption
of Man! To restore man through Christ to the Glory from which he fell,
and to the Honor of ruling His creation with Christ (the Last Adam).

7. Rest in this glorious knowledge. Taught by God Ministries stands
ready to help you understand the Truth that will set you Free!.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://taughtbygod.blogspot.com/2009/07/eternal-security-you-bet.html' title='Eternal Security? Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways. So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.” (Hebrews 3:7-11).

What does it mean to enter God’s rest. We read of the children of Israel failing to enter God’s rest because of unbelief, “So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief” (Hebrews 3:19). God had desired them to enter it and for this reason He rescued them out the land of bondage (Egypt) in order to take them to that rest. But they did not go in because they did not believe.

The story of Exodus is a type of our salvation in Christ. We too were rescued from bondage to sin and death, and God now tells us, as He told them then, to enter into His rest. But lots of Christians are doing anything but resting. In fact the majority of Christians I meet are quite restless. To quote one, “I believe I was more at rest as a lost person”.

What is the problem? The writer of Hebrews tells us that we do not enter God’s rest because we do not believe in what God says. Remember, God’s Word is true NO MATTER WHAT. “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).

The reason some people don’t believe there is a rest is because the cares of this world choke out our belief in God’s Word (Mat. 13:22). We say, “Rest! Who can rest?” “With my schedule, the kids, the job, the bills!! Who can rest with all of that happening? “Are you kidding me! Who can rest?”

Well, God would not offer his rest if it wasn’t possible to enter it would He? No, I don’t think so. So then how can we enter His rest? First of all let us understand that this rest is not from all those things we mentioned above. You may have a job, kids, bills, trouble, problems, and all those things which represent life here on earth. Entering God’s rest doesn’t mean a life free from these things, Jesus said we WILL have tribulation (John 16:33). NO, GOD’S PEACE IS NOT ESCAPE FROM TRIBULATION, BUT PEACE IN THE MIDST OF TRIBULATION.

It is the peace which is born of FAITH. Faith that takes God at His Word and declares it to be true not matter what!

If you look at the characters of the Bible you will see real people going through real problems. That’s why God had men write about what happened to them so that we could have encouragement in our own circumstances.

“For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope” (Romans 15:4).

We have hope and encouragement because we see that even though they had some very rough times, God brought them through it all. Even though at the time it might have looked bleak, and the long-range outlook wasn’t much better. But they believed that God would bring them through it all and He did.

Of course there were some who didn’t believe and God said, “So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest” (Hebrews 3:11).

God was very stern with them, but that is because He was making an example of them to illustrate a very important fact. That being that faith is the necessary requirement to appropriate God’s rest because, “Without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him” (Hebrews 11:6).

We forget sometimes that God created man for HIS pleasure. “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created” (Revelation 4:11). We tend to think sometimes that God is there for OUR pleasure. God lays on mankind the requirement to be pleasing to Him. The only way we can be pleasing to Him is by “the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20). His faith which becomes OURS when we have entered into relationship with Him.

This is where we discover where God’s rest is. It is appropriated by TRUE FAITH. Faith is not just “believing IN God”, even the demons believe that way. No, real faith is BELIEVING GOD. It is knowing what God has said, and considering it to be absolutely true no matter what the circumstances, no matter what the cost. Then just as important we yield over ourselves to God’s truth so that it might take fruit in our life.

You know the story of David, how God helped him when Saul tried to pin him to a wall, and subsequently chased him into the wilderness? Or Daniel in the lions den, how God shut their mouth? Or of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, how God protected them in the fiery furnace? These examples as well as many others show us the faithfulness of God when someone has entered His rest and have placed their faith in Him.

All these people experienced God’s deliverance because they entered God’s rest. They ceased from all struggle and abandoned to Him completely. And it was not a conditional trust. You know that kind that says, “Oh yes I trust God absolutely!” Then under their breath they add, “So long as everything turns out all right!”

Remember Daniel’s response, “If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king” (Daniel 3:17). It was the response of trust, “If God wants to save us He will for He is able. but whether He does or doesn’t we still will not pay homage to your demons!” That’s real faith, which is an unconditional attitude of trust, which Job put as, “ Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him” (Job 13:15). To be sure God will do the very best thing appropriate to our circumstance. But the result is up to Him, we have only to trust and obey.

“For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his” (Hebrews 4 10).

Jesus as our example followed this same pattern of dependence, “Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him” (Hebrews 5:7-9).

He trusted in His Father’s will and plan for his life, and this is exactly the key for us to enjoy the rest of God. That is a capitulation to God sovereignty. To know that God knows our circumstances, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end” (Jeremiah 29:11). Whether we got where we are by choice or design, God know’s our circumstance and He is working for our ultimate good.

God had rescued Israel from bondage, gave them the Law, and then commanded them to go into and possess the Land (Lev. 20:24). The symbolism is striking. God rescued us from bondage to sin and death by Christ’s death, and by the new birth (the result of His resurrection from the dead), he created us anew whereby now His Laws are written on our hearts (Jer. 31:33), and now He tells us to enter His rest. To Israel their rest was a place (Canaan), but that was not the permanent rest God had planed for His people.“For if Joshua had given them rest, He would not concerning another day have spoken after these things; there doth remain, then, a sabbath rest to the people of God” (Hebrews 4:8-9).

Canaan was a picture of the rest that would one day be given under the New Covenant that Messiah would usher in. Therefore the SABBATH REST is NOT a place or a time, but it:

A STATE OF BEING, ALL DAY, ALL THE TIME.

So the question is not whether there IS a rest, but of whether we will enter it. To enter His rest means we must cease from OUR labors. We can’t have it both ways. The Christian life is not:

Jesus helping me to live HIS life

Not helping me be LIKE Jesus.

But the ceasing of living my life so He can LIVE HIS through me. This “death to the self life” is the secret of entering into rest. As long as we allow the old self, the adamic nature to live there will be NO rest. Adam cannot enter rest. God’s rest is meant for HIS people. Adam cannot enter, but CHRIST can, and of us who have been born again have exited the race of Adam and entered the NEW RACE humanity under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

Again, rest is not the absence of trials and tribulations, but rest in the midst of them. We can rest because we have the promise of God that HE IS WORKING IN US TO DO AND TO WILL OF HIS GOOD PLEASURE (Php. 2:13).

All the time,

every time,

in every way,

everyday!

REMEMBER We stand in a victory ALREADY WON! Not fight in a battle already lost!

christian life Christianity Theology Religion Jesus Christ Church

God's Plan

"For whom he foreknew, he also foreordained to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren:" Romans 8:29, ASV.

Christ didn’t come to die in order to just buy us a ticket out of hell and into Heaven, although that is thankfully true. But He came to do much, much more.

But Christ came to fulfill a purpose that God had from the “foundations of the earth”, where He decreed that all that come to Christ by faith would therefore be conformed to his image.

The beginning of this of course is the cross of Jesus Christ. That’s where he “took away the sins of the world” (John 1:29). It is the beginning point of our salvation, but it’s not the ending point.

"For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, shall we be saved by his life;" Romans 5:10, ASV.

God had both a redemptive and regenerative purpose in sending his Son. You can’t have without the other but don’t confused one for the other. The first is a moment, sealed in time. The second is also a moment, but also at the same time a process. One occurred at the cross where the sinless Son of God became sin for us so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him (2Cor. 5:21).

But while the cross makes us fit for Heaven – the being reconciled to God – “becoming the righteousness of God in Him – is an ongoing process whereby He conforms us into the image of His Son.

The Greek word from which we translate “conform” is “summorphos”, which is where we derive the word “Morph”. The idea that the word conveys however is a “designed morph” more than just a haphazard one, like a Butterfly morphing from a caterpillar. It’ a natural morphing.

This isn’t a superficial morphing – external only. No, this is from the inside out. As Jesus told us in Mark 7:23, that man has a "heart" problem..."For from within, out of the heart of men, evil thoughts proceed, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, covetings, wickednesses, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, railing, pride, foolishness:" Mark 7:21, 22, ASV.

Jesus didn't come to get bad men into Heaven. But to make man functional on God's terms of reference on earth on the way to Heaven.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ isn’t just about a change of destination, but a change of character. God isn’t interested in making us showroom mantel pieces that he can show off to the kosmos. He is committed, and to this end Christ died, that Christ may be the first born of many brethren, so that we may be "Like Him" (1John 3:2)

By His death we are reconciled - our sins completely washed away. Then by His resurrection from the dead He imparts his very Life to us to begin teaching our minds (Rom. 12:2), thus controlling our emotions, which in turn direct our will.

The result is a life which has no possible explaination except God Himself.
christian life Christianity Theology Religion Jesus Christ Church

Storms

"And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?"(Mark 4:35-41, KJV).

Has the Lord told you that you’re going to the other side? Has he given you a vision? If he has, you can be sure that on the way there will be storms. Count on it.

Storms do have a purpose to them. In this example in the gospel of Mark the storm was used to teach the disciples a lesson about faith. The Lord had told them Let us go to the other side yet on the way a terrible storm arose and water began to fill the boat.

Isn’t this exactly what happens with us? We just get the vision from God of what he wants us to do, and immediately a storm arises. Our reaction may be , “Maybe I had no vision at all” Perhaps He doesn’t want me to go in that direction.
But we forget that just because God gives you a vision, does not mean that you are immediately prepared for the call. There are many examples of this in the Scripture.

Paul the Apostle was called on the road to Damascus, but it was years _before he was ready for the call. He had not experienced the storms that would prepare him. Moses was another example, he knew the call, but it was 40 years before he could begin to fulfill it. He had not enough storms.

I live in Florida, and during the last hurricane season I heard a very interesting thing about them. Hurricanes for all the damage they do, actually do a lot for the environment. That’s right, they clean it up like a giant washing machine. They blow away dead top soil and clean away dead vegetation, so that from the removal of decay, new life may spring.

It is through the storms of life that God is a lot of the time cleaning away the dead soil and vegetation of our lives, so that the New Life of Christ within us may shine! So in light of this we can look at storms in one of two ways. As either as a hindrance or a help.

To the disciples on this night, the storm was no doubt a hindrance. The _Lord had said lets go to the other side, but here was this storm hindering the _way. So much were they focused on the storm that they though the end had come, “Master, carest not that we perish?”. But just as soon as they spoke, He _spoke to the storm, “Peace be still”.

We usually view a storm as a hindrance when our own plans and designs _are in effect. Sure we had a vision, but then we take the ball and run ahead of the Lord. Then when a storm comes, we scream, “Master! Carest not that we perish? How could this happen to ME, just when I was starting to make headway?

I have found that this is usually a good time to reevaluate the call. Not for its authenticity, but for my availability to God in it. In other words search my heart. Waiting on the Lord is one of the hardest virtues of a Child of God to learn. But it is a virtue worthy of cultivation.

But if after searching our hearts we know that he has said, Let us go to the other side, then lets view the storm as something that God is using to cleanse us for effective use. Then we the storms come, and they will, though they may not be pleasant, we will endure for the sake of the call.

christian life Christianity Theology Religion Jesus Christ Church

Christmas not to all, but to those who have received him

What is Christmas?

To many it is the day we exchange gifts for one another. But in truth it is the day that we celebrate the day that God spoke and the world heard a baby cry - the biggest thing that God ever said.

"And there were shepherds in the same country abiding in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock. And an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all the people: for there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord. And this is the sign unto you: Ye shall find a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, and lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men in whom he is well pleased." Luke 2:8-14, ASV.

On this day the invisible, immortal, omnipotent creator of the universe became a human being:

"who, existing in the form of God, counted not the being on an equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men; and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, becoming obedient even unto death, yea, the death of the cross." Philippians 2:6-8, ASV.

God became man.

"Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, And they shall call his name Immanuel; which is, being interpreted, God with us." Matthew 1:23, ASV.

The Eternal stepped out of eternity into time, and made himself just as much as we are worth apart from him - nothing. Yet he didn't come to live, but to die and he would 33 years later on a Roman cross.

But not all received his coming. Indeed as King Herod of Judea would inquire about the "King of Jews":

"Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the Wise-men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the male children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the borders thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had exactly learned of the Wise-men. Then was fulfilled that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet, saying, A voice was heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children; And she would not be comforted, because they are not." Matthew 2:16-18, ASV.

Not all receive him today, for they are still about the Devil's ancient work of destroying the Christ Child. The secular organizations of this Country that seek to erase the name of Christ from Christmas.

"He came unto his own, and they that were his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he the right to become children of God, even to them that believe on his name:" John 1:11, 12, ASV.

So on this day remember that while the world by and large celebrates lip service and indifference to the Creator who became man, those of us who have believed on His name and have received Him have much to remember and celebrate today!

Merry Christmas!

christian life Christianity Theology Religion Jesus Christ Church

What Thy Wounds Mean to Me

Oh my saviour, unto thee

I sing sweet songs of victory,

through thy wounds I come to see,

all your love means to me.

You hung alone on Calvary's Cross,

to wipe away the loss,

How little did the world know then, just as now,

what forgiveness cost.

O' Soveriegn Lord, High and Lifted up,

far above all sin and care,

How much your love did condescend,

to lift us to thy Holy chair.

You cast away our wretchedness,

our sin, you put away.

Your judgment of our ways was guilty,

Your death spelled "Paid in Full".

Oh my saviour, unto thee

I sing sweet songs of victory.

Through thy wounds I come to see,

all your love means to me.

- T.P. As branches we don't deterimine our own fruit - what it looks like or how it tastes.

The fruit we produces comes simply from abiding in the Vine.

"Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; so neither can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same beareth much fruit: for apart from me ye can do nothing." John 15:4-5

We have heard this verse hundreds of times in our Christian experience, but have be believed it? How often do we go off to do this and that "for Jesus"? Only to find ourselves in the end confused and discouraged?

To "Be sent", isn't the same as "going on our own". It isn't making up our own mind to "do our own thing", or even "work for Jesus".

The branch doesn't "work", it "abides". In fact, the branch doesn't struggle at all, it simple abides in the Vine - the VINE does the work.

Jesus while on earth gave us the perfect example of man's relationship to God. Here is the verse to which I am referring, and then a bit of a paraphrase to being the point out.

"Jesus therefore said to them again, Peace be unto you: as the Father hath sent me, even so send I you" John 20:21

Jesus said that as the Father sent Him, so He now sends us. So to find out how he sends us, we need only to know how the Father sent Him.

"As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father; so he that eateth me, he also shall live because of me" John 6:57

The Father sent the Son to LIVE by the Father. But why?

"Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I say unto you I speak not from myself: but the Father abiding in me doeth his works." John 14:10

So that the Father could live by the Son! Now did the Father who is God and eternal need the Son who co-equal and eternal so that he could live? Of course not!

But in this arraignment we see how the Son sends us.

Thought the eternal God, Jesus came to earth and took upon himself human flesh. He became man. Then as man he allowed his body to be used by God the Father to do "His work" while on earth. Thus the Father sent the Son.

"As the Father sent me and I lived by the Father...."

So then how does he send us?

In the same way.

Now the paraphrase: "As the Father sent me.....and I live by the Father......the Father in me He does the works......So I send you.....and you shall live by me, I in you doing my works."

To be sent by the Lord is smply to be abiding in Him so that through us He can do His work.

christian life Christianity Theology Religion Jesus Christ Church

The Truth of God's Love

"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet
sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8, KJV).

God's love for us was shown while we were yet sinners. That means
before we came to faith in Christ. Many Christians struggle with the ideal
that God loves them. I mean that He really loves them personally. 'Lip
service' is fine for playing 'Church'. But many will admit when they are
honest about it that they have no real ideal about God's love for them.
Don't be ashamed if you doubt the love of God. I did too, but there is a
solution. But you won't find it as long as you play 'church'. When you
understand the love of God - really understand His love, your whole life
will begin to be transformed - maybe for the first time!

So why don't we understand His love for us? The key is again in the
verse quoted above. God¹s love extended towards us while we were
enemies.  That is not the only verse. Here¹s some more;

"Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent
his Son to be the propitiation for our sins" (1 John 4:10, KJV).

"And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by
wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled" (Colossians 1:21, KJV).

³Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin
abounded, grace did much more abound" (Romans 5:20, KJV).

"For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death
of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life²
(Romans 5:10, KJV).

Now, who really loves an enemy? Who would love an enemy so much that they
would die for them?

"For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the
ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure
for a good man some would even dare to die" (Romans 5:6-7, KJV).

Jesus taught this kind of Love in regard to the treatment of our enemies.

"But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do
good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you,
and persecute you" (Matthew 5:44, KJV).

In case you haven't noticed, this is totally foreign to the way human
beings normally act toward our enemies. When we are wronged, we want revenge.

We want to get even.

Oh yes, in a moment of benevolence we can be ³forgiving² towards
another. But if the motive of the heart was known, it is really our own
way of ³getting even². ³Yes, I will forgive you (you worm!)².

But that is not the kind of treatment Jesus was speaking of. We
forgive many times just to receive a thank you. Jesus said forgive and
love your enemies even if they spit in your face, as in reality they did
in his.

God is Love

God's love is not an attribute He has. It is the very essence of His
being. "God is love". (1 John 4:8, KJV). Everything God does is love in
action. People have such a hard time with understanding the love of God
thinking, "Its too good to be true". But I would say, "Its too good not
to be true".

In addition to God's love extended towards an enemy, it is also love in
spite of the response. People curse God, yet God still continues to love
them.

"Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and
open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with
me² (Revelation 3:20, KJV).

Jesus knocks at some doors which are barricaded against his entrance.
Some doors which will never open. No matter, He will continue to knock.

One of the reasons we have such a hard time understanding the love of God is
because we try to understand it, instead of receive it. God's love is
revelatory.

"But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have
entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them
that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the
Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man
knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even
so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have
received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God;
that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which
things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but
which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for
they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are
spiritually discerned" (1 Corinthians 2:9-14, KJV).

God¹s Love is Redemptive

Now we will notice a few more things about the love of God. We saw that
God¹s love is aimed toward an enemy. But not so the enemy could continue
to be an enemy, but so that the enemy could become a friend. God¹s love
is not so much at who we were, but who He could make us in Christ. His
love has an aim - to make us just like His Son (Rom. 8:29).

God's love cannot be understood by those who have not entered into that
love by receiving Christ as Lord. The Bible tells us, ³The natural man
receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness
unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually
discerned" (1 Corinthians 2:14, KJV).

If we are honest, we will agree that before coming to faith in Christ the Gospel was so much nonsense to
us. But when we received Him as Lord the Gospel made perfect sense.

The same is true of God's love, because God¹s love (remember) is God in
action, and the Gospel is the story of God in the action of redeeming His
crowning creation - man.

God's love therefore is a gift. "For by grace are ye saved through
faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works,
lest any man should boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9, KJV).

It is the Love of God the Father manifested that prompted the Apostle
John to write, "Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon
us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth
us not, because it knew him not" (1 John 3:1, KJV).

You do not understand God¹s love. You receive it as a gift. God¹s gift
of His love to you. He demonstrated it by Sending His Son as a proof of
the measure of His love. Therefore all we can do is receive His precious
offering (His grace) by faith.

Spirituality Christianity
